Moving here is well served by lawyers, agents and Locate Guernsey. What nobody is paid to care about is whether you are still here in three years. That is what this is.
What it is
Twelve months, for the whole household rather than just the person whose name is on the contract.
Before you arrive
A conversation with the whole family. What matters to each of you, what you are leaving, what you are quietly worried about.
The first month
Orientation to how the island actually works, socially as well as practically, and three to five deliberate introductions chosen for your family.
Months two to six
A partner into work, study, volunteering or a business. Children into activities and sport. Regular contact with the household itself, rather than reporting up to whoever is paying.
Months six to twelve
The shift from being introduced to belonging. And where an employer is paying, an honest closing account of what would make the next arrival land better.
Throughout, one named person you can ring, who is working for you and not for anyone else.
Families arriving at the same time are introduced to each other. Newcomers befriending newcomers is often the most durable connection anyone makes here.
What it is not
Not permits, removals or property. Not a duplicate of Locate Guernsey, which is free and does a different job well. Not coaching, and not a networking group.
What it costs
£7,500 for the twelve months. That is the price whether you pay it yourself or your employer does.

If you are an employer
You may not need any of this explained. A great many of the people running businesses on this island moved here themselves, and can remember precisely how the first two years went for their family. The partner who arrived with a career and spent eighteen months without one. The child who took far longer to settle than anyone admitted at the time. The winter where it was genuinely in the balance.
If that is you, you already know what this is. The rest of this section is for everyone else.
The hire is right, the work is good, nothing goes wrong at the office, and eighteen months later the family goes home. The move failed somewhere else, and by the time anyone in your business hears about it the decision has already been made.
Family adjustment is consistently identified in global mobility research as the strongest predictor of whether a relocated employee stays, and the accompanying partner is the pivot. One widely cited survey by NetExpat and EY found that 71% of companies named the accompanying partner's unhappiness as the primary cause of assignment failure. Historical estimates put assignment failure rates somewhere between 20 and 40%.
The same research repeatedly notes that family and cultural support is among the most underfunded lines in mobility budgets. Typical spend on destination and settling-in services is around $3,000 per assignee, while spousal job assistance alone is benchmarked at around $10,000.
Almost everyone pays for the removals van. Very few pay for the thing that actually decides the outcome.
The arithmetic is straightforward. UK recruitment fees typically run at 15 to 30% of first-year salary, so a £70,000 hire runs to around £14,000 before you have paid for relocation costs at all. Lose that person at eighteen months and you pay all of it again, plus whatever the vacancy costs in between.

- What happens if it does not work?
- Tell me early and we change what we are doing, or we stop. I would rather end something that is not working than run out the twelve months for the sake of it.
